[PC] Kane and Lynch: Dead Men (MULTI5)

My personal review:

This is a very awaited game and it was indeed worth it! The final result of this new game is simply superb in what relates to gameplay and the graphics themselves. You take the role of a rubber who has to kill everyone who sees him in service and with a simple but interesting story, I am sure that this game will captivate your attention for some days. I bet you will be playing this game in the previous night of Christmas and that you will love to play it when you have some freetime. So go and grab it while you can my friend! =D

Gamespot review:

Currently scheduled for release toward the end of November, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a game that we've seen an awful lot of over the past year or so. While covering the game throughout its development we've played through a number of the story-driven campaign missions, and earlier this month we were afforded our first look at its innovative "fragile alliance " competitive multiplayer mode. Until our latest meeting with Eidos, though, we had only ever seen Kane & Lynch running on the Xbox 360. Last week we had an opportunity to check out both the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of the game, and we played through a couple of previously unseen campaign levels in the process. Minor spoilers are included in this story.

The first new level we played through is titled Withdrawal, and will see you (as Kane) teaming up with Lynch and a "vault breaker" acquaintance to pull off a bank heist. The bank in question will also appear in the aforementioned fragile alliance mode, but the job is a little less straightforward in campaign mode. For starters, it's not even money that you're after, it's the contents of a safety-deposit box inside a well-guarded vault. In a gameplay sequence not wholly unlike something you might expect in one of IO Interactive's Hitman games, the team doesn't just shoot its way into the bank--rather, it quietly takes out a couple of security guards and then, after going in through the back door and finding a way up onto the roof, one of the guys dumps something into the bank's ventilation system to make everyone inside drowsy.

[PC][MULTILANGUAGE] COMPANY OF HEROES:OPPOSING FRONTS

My personal review:

This game had some nice reviews in the newspapers and it wasn't just a lye, in fact this game rocks a bunch! It is amazing how real a game can be and this is one of the best examples of that. While it can't compete with games like Call of Duty 4, it is still a very good game and worth playing. This is the kind of game that is cool to play with your friends in the Christmas night that is coming. Just enjoy my friends because you won't have so much time soon. I hope you like it!

Gamespot review:

When Company of Heroes shipped last year, it proved that there's plenty of life in the World War II real-time strategy genre if companies take risks and innovate. THQ and Relic's superb real-time strategy game did that by blending in so many cutting-edge elements that it made the battlefield come alive like rarely before. Thanks to impressive artificial intelligence that made soldiers move and act like the real thing, as well as the tactical implications of a spectacular and fully destructible battlefield, Company of Heroes was a game that rewarded smart and quick thinking. With an excellent single-player campaign and thrilling multiplayer gameplay, it was also named GameSpot's 2007 PC Game of the Year. Now, just slightly a year after it was released, THQ and Relic have released Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, a fairly straightforward and satisfying follow-up that delivers more content for would-be Pattons to enjoy.

Opposing Fronts is more of a pseudosequel than an expansion pack. You don't need the original Company of Heroes to play it, though if you do you'll be able to select from the US Army and regular German Army factions from that game in skirmish matches. Otherwise, you'll be restricted to the two new factions introduced in Opposing Fronts: the British Army and the German Panzer Elite. These factions both get their own campaign that, when combined, make for a longer single-player experience than Company of Heroes. Interestingly, the campaigns are staggered so that they're in nonlinear order. You'll begin with the story of two German brothers battling against the daring airborne assault of Operation Market Garden, and in the following campaign you'll leap further back into the past to participate in the British Army's lengthy and bloody assault on the French city of Caen.

The heart of the expansion can be found in the new factions. Both play quite differently from the US and German factions in the first game, and though you needn't have played Company of Heroes to dive into Opposing Fronts, it's hard not to shake the feeling that the British and Panzer Elite are designed for veteran players. That's because their mobile nature makes them a bit more of a handful to control than the prior factions. To clarify, the Panzer Elite is built around the idea of hard-hitting and fast-moving combat groups that can race around the battlefield, either to counter what the enemy is doing or to exploit an opening. To that extent, the Panzer Elite doesn't so much lock down territory as it bulldozes its way across the map. Thankfully, Panzer Elite infantry can repair vehicles during slight pauses, but you won't have a lot of time to hunker down before another situation needs putting out.

At first glance, the British Army seems to be built similarly around the idea of mobility and defenses, given that it has mobile headquarters units that can relocate around the map. However, the British also excel at building things: devastating howitzer emplacements, mortar pits, slit trenches, and more. As one might expect, the campaign missions highlight each faction's abilities quite nicely. In the brutal house-to-house fighting of Caen, the British can call in the dreaded "creeping barrage" that shatters enemy lines. Likewise, the Panzer Elite can punch through Allied defenses and raid around their rears to capture or destroy landing points for airborne forces.

Opposing Fronts doesn't add any significant new gameplay features to Company of Heroes. The most noteworthy new additions come courtesy of the new faction doctrines, such as scorched-earth tactics for the Axis. These upgrades let you booby-trap buildings so that enemy infantry who enter them are in for a big surprise, and also let you blow up strategic objective points to deny them to the enemy. Both factions have three different upgrade paths to choose from, and these can help tailor the game to your style or tactical situation.

Multiplayer was a key part of Company of Heroes' success. The destructible battlefields and finely balanced gameplay can make for countless nail-biting moments online. Finding battles was also easy, thanks to the top-notch server browser. Not surprisingly, Opposing Fronts doesn't tinker with what's not obviously broken. The only caveat is that it's a bit difficult to find a game online around launch, so hopefully the community will pick up. If you can't find a match, there's also skirmish support with a wide range of AI opponents. If you want to learn the basics, you can lower the difficulty to pushover status. On the other hand, if you want to test your skills against ruthless and relentless opponents, then just ramp up the difficulty. As before, there are two game modes. There's annihilation, which is basically a standard deathmatch that can be played from one-on-one up to three-on-three, as well as victory-point control mode, which is a great alternative to annihilation. That's because victory-point control forces you to battle for three control points on the map. If you let the enemy hold on to them for too long, you'll lose, so there's a constant level of tension throughout most of the game.

[PC GAMES] Gears Of War [MULTI 5][DVD9]

My little review:

This game was a huge success in the XBOX 360 and it definitely is worth playing! I was absolutely addicted with this game until I finished it, not long ago. I bet that you will fall in love with this game's frenetic action and gameplay as well as the astonishing graphics that it has!
This is the kind of game that deserves to be played the whole day in the comfort of your home and while everyone is outside looking at the trees. Just play this game and have fun with it!

Gamespot review now:

Released near the end of the Xbox 360's first year on the market, Gears of War was a defining moment for Microsoft's console. Its gameplay relied heavily on forcing you to take cover to avoid enemy shots, which meant that it required a healthy dose of patience as well as a steady trigger finger. It then beat that mechanic into your head over the course of its quality story mode, while also letting you team up with a friend online to take on the nefarious Locust forces together. Of course, it also had an amazing team-based multiplayer mode in which up to eight shooters could connect and go at it in a variety of different modes. Over time, more multiplayer maps and modes were added to the collection via the Xbox 360's download service. All of that great stuff is now available on the PC, on which the game looks better than it ever did on the Xbox 360, and without sacrificing anything in the process. If you've never played Gears of War, or if you just haven't played it in a while, do yourself a favor and try this new version of the game.

The gameplay is really satisfying, too, thanks to a very brutal graphical style that makes your weapons look like they're doing extreme damage. Likewise, you'll appreciate the quality control with a mouse/keyboard setup or an Xbox 360 gamepad, which is fully supported in the game. Your main tactic in the game is to run up to an object and quickly hide behind it, then occasionally pop out to fire off some shots and quickly get behind cover again before you take too much damage and explode into a bloody mist with several meaty chunks. With a mouse and keyboard, you're mostly using the standard WASD shooter control scheme, but the space bar is used to run and to get behind cover, and you can hold down the right mouse button to pop up out of cover and take aimed shots. With the gamepad, the left trigger is used to manage cover, the right trigger shoots, and A is used for running. Both setups work just fine, though holding the space bar to run feels a little awkward. Furthermore, the mouse lets you turn and aim much faster than a gamepad does, which means that the mouse will probably be the control scheme of choice for online matches.

Up to eight players can come together online and break off into two teams for a handful of different game types. Examples include warzone, which is the normal team-deathmatch style of play, and execution, which forces you to run up and chainsaw or boot players who've been downed to finish them off. Other modes, such as king of the hill and annex, make the game a little more tactical by requiring you to claim and hold various points on the map. All in all, the multiplayer offering is just as savage and great-looking as the single-player mode, and with plenty of maps to choose from, it can keep you busy for a very long time.

I personally enjoyed the gameplay since the beginning as I am a deep fan of this series and also because you can't imagine how exciting it can be to play it for hours! After some hours you will be lost in good sensations and you will be struggling to play just a little bit more. So, I hope you can enjoy this game as much as I did! I am sure you will, anyway....

Gamespot review:

Sonic Mega Collection Plus is basically a collection of all the Sonic games for the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive in Europe) and Game Gear, so players looking for titles like Sonic Adventure or Sonic Heroes are going to be disappointed. As such, the nostalgic value is immense - the games look, sound and play exactly like they did over a decade ago, and hold up surprisingly well against today's games.

The concept of the Sonic series is a simple one – you play as Sonic the Hedgehog or any other character depending on the game. Throughout each game, you'll pursue the evil-doing Dr. Robotnik, who keeps trapping cute little animals inside evil robots. It's your job to save these little critters and defeat Dr. Robotnik. Classic Sonic gameplay has you moving very fast across varied levels filled with loops and platforms, collecting rings as health points, destroying computer screens to gain powerups and collecting precious stones called Chaos Emeralds. This is the basis to one of the world's finest 2D-platforming series, although, as specifically apparent in some of the games offered within this compilation, it doesn't always show a pretty face.

Right out of the box, you'll get Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, and various Game Gear titles such as Sonic, Sonic Drift and Sonic Labyrinth. While this is a nice roster of games, some of them, specifically the Game Gear titles and Sonic 3D Blast, don't quite hold well and drag this package down.

Once you're done with these, the only other worthwhile games you can play are Sonic & Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. The latter can be replaced by any other Bubble Puzzle clone out there today, so unless you're an absolute Sonic freak, you're left with Sonic & Knuckles. The game is very good, but it can be punishing in its difficulty at times. Nonetheless, it provides an excellent challenge and the same level of great level design introduced in Sonic 3.

Once you're done with all the get-go games, you can unlock a bunch of other games, including Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 2 & Knuckles, Blue Spheres (an entire game based on Sonic 3's sphere collecting minigame) and even other Sega classics like Ristar and Comix Zone. The problem is these unlockables require that you finish the games 20-30 times each, and that's just wrong. It's a cheap way of artificially lengthening the life of the game – as fun as these games are to play over and over again, I doubt anyone will want to crawl through Sonic 3D Blast 30 times just to play another Sonic game. On the other hand, other extras include video clips of Sonic games, scans of the original game manuals and even dozens of Sonic comic strips, so Sonic fanatics will definitely find more than their share of Sonic fun in this package.

One thing that has to be pointed out is that the Sonic series had and still has some of the best music in videogame history. It probably sounds weird, but the different soundtracks in this package are so nostalgic I sometimes find myself starting the games just to hear the music. It's really that great. Another must-mention is that Sonic Mega Collection Plus can save the day when it comes to games like Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic & Knuckles – you can now save your game wherever you want. This comes in especially handy on that lame final 3D boss or the Death Egg level of Sonic 2, and makes playing these games a much easier, enjoyable experience.

The bottom line is, even though the game requires you to do ridiculous things to get all the games and includes some questionable titles, there's still enough rocket-fast Sonic gameplay here to warrant the attention of old Sonic veterans and young gamers seeking to explore the great origins of console fun. I'd recommend getting either the PSP or PS2 version of the game, though with a good gamepad (note: there are remappable controls), the game is just as playable and loads saved games much faster on the PC. At $19.99, you really can't go wrong either way.

Good:
Loads of gameplay; outstanding music; stable and bug-free; low system requirements for PC version; the ability to save progress is extremely useful; lots of great Sonic comic strips; it's Sonic, one of the best platformers of all time.

Bad:
Game Gear titles and Sonic 3D Blast are questionable additions; requiring the player to play the games dozens of time just to unlock extras is pathetic.

Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey Full DVD *ISO

My personal review:

This is a brand new game that comes to the PC in one of the most wanted times of the season and when people are trying to find the best gifts to their sons. As a result, you could opt to give this game to any of your familiars but the gameplay simply makes me unable to recommend it to anyone. I didn't like to play this game and I think that you won't too. So grab it if you want to test this game but don't consider playing it for a long time because you will get bored, extremely bored!

Gamespot preview:

Though best known for its PC strategy and role-playing games, Moscow-based developer Akella will soon be hitting the PlayStation 2 with Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey, an action role-playing game set during the Civil War. In the game, players will assume the role of the burly Abraham Gray, a ship captain trying to make ends meet during a tumultuous time in America's history. He'll get to sail between the Northern Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico in search of riches, alliances, and adventure in a game that's clearly inspired by the recent Sid Meier's Pirates!. However, while Pirates! presents a rather lighthearted look at the privateer occupation, Swashbucklers packs in some bloody, no-holds-barred sword fights and gun battles. We got a chance to see the hand-to-hand and ship-to-ship combat as well as some of the other elements of play in the work-in-progress build shown at E3.

Despite the gritty combat, Swashbucklers isn't going to replace your history books. Its stylized character design is reminiscent of World of Warcraft, and you can look forward to seeing some interesting creative liberties on display in the game. The story seems to involve some experimental weapons being manufactured to tip the war in favor of a particular side, so everything from Gatling guns to powder rockets will eventually be available, in addition to the six-shooters, sabers, and cannonballs you'd naturally expect.

The game will feature many of the same elements as Pirates!, in that you'll get to engage in ship-to-ship battles on the high seas, meet other characters and conduct trade at local ports, customize your ship with improved weapons and defenses, and so on. The ship-to-ship combat looks quite similar to that of Pirates!, though the greater variety of weapons and a few other touches may add more depth. It's still simple, easy-to-control combat that should be easy to pick up. After you weaken an enemy ship's defenses, you can move in to board it, at which point Captain Grey will have to take on the remaining crew, followed by the enemy ship's captain. The combat has the look of an action RPG, but smooth animation and plenty of gore make these sequences seem pretty intense. It's particularly satisfying to see Captain Grey rapidly empty all six chambers of one of his pistols to blow away an opponent.

Another difference between this game and Pirates! is that Swashbucklers seems to have heavier RPG-style character development elements. In a nod to the classic Fallout, Captain Grey gains perks, or special abilities, as he gains experience levels. So it'll be up to you to decide whether to develop him as a fearsome fighter, a skilled navigator, a silver-tongued trader, and more. Some of these grant bonuses, while others give Abraham Grey completely new abilities. Expect about 60 different perks in all.

Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey has been in development for a couple of years already and seems to be like a promising combination of tried-and-true elements with a unique spin. Its open-ended structure should inherently make for some good replay value, so we're hoping that all the disparate elements get all the time they need to be properly tuned and cleaned up in time for the game's release on the PS2 and PC later this year.

[PC][MULTILANGUAGE] Code Of Honor The French Foreign Legion

My personal review:

This game has some of the best graphics I have ever seen, but it fails in what relates to be immersing and addicting as any game must be! It is still a good game to play in this upcoming holidays and sure is, also, a great chance to some players to put their hands in a very decent FPS who doesn't request to much hardware capabilities and still is very good! I bet that you will be amazed with the fluency of this game which contrasts with the poor gameplay that I mentioned before. This game is one of the most waited war games of this year and besides being a big dilution it is still very good to play. I really hope that you can take the biggest advantage possible from this game and for your personal joy! I bet you will anyway!

Medieval 2: Total War Kingdoms [Multi 5] [PC-DVD]

My personal review:

This is also one of the games of the year and surely a great chance to take the advantage of a great game experience! I bet that you will have a really great time playing this game, even more pleasure than if you were watching the final game of the season of your favourite club! This game has an huge gameplay, as well as very interesting graphcis. So just grab it if you want and enjoy!

Gamespot review:

Conquering Europe is never an easy task, in real life and in Medieval II: Total War. It's a big place, after all, and there's no shortage of foes, as you might have learned in Sega and Creative Assembly's epic strategy game. Enter Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms, an expansion pack that offers up whole new areas of the world for would-be emperors to conquer. There's a lot of content in here for veteran Total War fans to chew through, though newcomers should probably familiarize themselves with Medieval II before diving into this packed expansion.

This expansion is like having four all-new games in one, considering that it features four unique single-player campaigns: Britannia, the Crusades, the Teutonic Knights, and, most radically, the Americas. The nice thing about these campaigns is that they don't feel like Creative Assembly just recycled a lot of content from the core campaign and called it a day. Each campaign feels like it was built from the ground up, complete with its own appropriate music, movies, units, rule changes, and more. Even some of the oft-humorous cutscenes that show in-game events have been retooled for the better. (If the "walking bush" infiltration cutscene doesn't make you smile, then you have no sense of humor.)

Even though these campaigns aren't quite on the scale of the epic campaign in Medieval II, they're still huge. Each will require hours to get through, particularly if you play through each battle rather than have the computer automatically generate the results. Though they're normally focused on more specific eras in history, Creative Assembly has done a good job of making these campaigns feel grand in their own right.

While the Britannia campaign might seem like a rehash of the successful Viking Invasion expansion for the original Medieval: Total War, it's quite different. The Viking Invasion was set in the Dark Ages, when a dozen factions tried to carve a power base. This new Britannia campaign occurs much later in history, and you'll play either as England trying to cement your hold on the islands, or as one of the smaller nations (Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Norway) trying to fight back. Playing as England may be the toughest proposition in the entire expansion, because you start out with huge swaths of poorly developed territory and must defend your land from all sides. You can easily find yourself strapped for the resources needed to upgrade your territories and field huge armies. Forts play a big role in this campaign, in that they're basically minicastles that help you defend large expanses of territory.

[PC Game][MULTILANGUAGE] Mugen Fighting Jam

My personal review:

You may have never heard about this game but is one of the best arcade games ever! And more importantly, it is now available in the PC. This game features more than 700 characters from your favourite anime heroes as well as all that you have heard about from the cartoons, it is simply amazing how familiar this game is as soon as you start to look deeper within it. You will feel like if your childhood was back and about to start from the beginning. The gameplay is awesome, although the graphics are the expectable from a 2D game. Anyway, I know that you will love to play this game and that's why I have to recommend it to you for this holidays of the Christmas.

[ PC ] [ MULTILANGUAGE ] Sid Meier's Railroads

My personal review:

This is not a very recent game or a very famous one, but the producer of the game Sid Meier sure is one of the most respected ones. The gameplay is very complete and interesting if you like to manage your own company of trains and I bet that you will fall in love with the graphics as they are amazing too! I can't really recommend this game to all, but to the fans of this kind of game this game will be what they must wanted all this Christmas Holidays... I hope you can enjoy it.

Gamespot review:

Sid Meier's Railroads! might not have "tycoon" in its name, but it's still a very addictive economic strategy game that just about anyone can enjoy. Regardless of your affinity for trains, Railroads! is an engaging and surprisingly deep game that lets you do much more than lay track and watch miniature trains chug across the map. You can connect cities to trade goods and haul passengers, purchase and supply industries, play the stock market, bid on new technology, and watch cities grow as you supply them with the goods to take them from tiny backwater towns to thriving metropolises. But as complex and rewarding as building a railroad empire can be, it rarely feels daunting or tedious, which is perhaps the best thing that can be said for a game of this type.

There are 15 different fictional and historical scenarios to choose from in Railroads! The historical scenarios take place in real-world locations such as the American Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, Great Britain, France, and Germany. These scenarios cover the entire history of the railroad, from its beginnings in the mid-19th century all the way through modern day. The era affects what types of engines you can purchase, as well as the general economy. For example, if you play in any of the European countries in the first half of the 20th century, you'll want to focus on processing and shipping steel to support the war effort.

In each scenario you're usually given several goals to meet. You might have to do something as simple as connect Liverpool and Manchester, or something a bit more ambitious like earn $30 million. The goals are divided by era, so you're always working within a time frame. Depending on how many of the goals you fulfill at the end of the allotted time period, you'll be rewarded prestige points and one of several rankings ranging from Traveling Circuis Freak to President of the United States or Prime Minister.

The fictional scenarios are of course unconfined by history, so they're a bit more off-beat. There's a wide-open plains area where your routes are fast and cheap to construct; a giant lake where everything is separated by vast stretches of water, which makes it difficult to build efficiently; and a giant red cyclone-shaped continent modeled after the Firaxis company logo. As in the historical scenarios, you're given various objectives to complete within a time period and you can either fulfill those objectives or ignore them and just focus on building a massive shipping empire. Both the historical and the fictional scenarios offer a variety of challenges that make each one interesting, if not entirely unique. You can also choose to randomize the location of cities and resources to ensure that you never play the same scenario twice.

Sid Meier's Railroads! plays very much like the Railroad Tycoon games, so if you've played those you'll be right at home here. You start out with a single train depot, usually in a small town. From there it's entirely up to you how to go about building your railway. Near most towns there are several industries, such as grain farms, cattle ranches, lumber mills, coal mines, or oil wells. You can build a railroad to these industries, construct an annex to load your trains, and then purchase an engine and assign it a number of cars. You have to designate the route you want that train to take, and you can sit back and let the money roll in.

To maximize your profits, though, you'll want to take full advantage of all of your resources. To do this you'll need to purchase processing facilities in each city so that you not only get money for shipping the goods, but you also get money for processing the goods into usable materials. You can then ship those materials to other cities to make even more money. By networking cities and towns with resources you can quickly build an empire and begin making cash so fast you'll have a hard time keeping up.

The audio in Railroads! is detailed as well. You'll hear an entire array of locomotive noises, from the distinct whistles to the whoosh of the brakes as an engine pulls into a depot. If you get close to a town you'll hear some charming pastoral tunes pick up, which seem to fit the theme, but it would be nice to have some background music available beyond the towns.

Sid Meier's Railroads! strikes a comfortable balance between a deep economic simulation and an accessible, streamlined empire-building game. People looking for the same level of micromanagement of Railroad Tycoon 3 might be disappointed with just how simplified Railroads! is, but there's still plenty of depth here to make it worth a look. This is also a good game for people who are new to tycoon-style games and just want to build a virtual model railroad without worrying about the minutiae of business management. Railroads! is a game that is easy to get into, but once you're there you'll continue to find new levels of detail that will keep you playing for a long time.

[ PC ]Enemy Territory: Quake Wars// 6 Links on yastorage ( UNLIMITED DOWNLOADING )

My personal review:

This is another great FPS to add to the collection of this year's releases and in fact, this one also deserves some great rate! The graphics engine is absolutely amazing and the gameplay is very realistic, I bet that you will feel like if you were there in the centre of the action playing the role of the main character. This is by far the best part of this game and that's what makes it so special. So don't waste more time and get to play it as soon as possible my friends!

Gamespot review:

If you took 2003's freely downloadable Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and mashed it together with the Battlefield games, you might come up with something like Quake Wars. Of course, the whole business of the original Enemy Territory's Allies and Axis have been replaced by the humans and Strogg from the Quake universe, but the basic nature of the gameplay is unchanged. Two opposing teams still duke it out while attempting to complete a series of objectives, though this time you can jump into a bunch of different vehicles and aircraft to carry out your assaults. The concept itself isn't really new, but it's put together extremely well, and its mission-focused gameplay will appeal to veterans of these types of shooters, as well as those who have previously been intimidated by them.

The year is 2065. The Strogg race has attacked Earth in order to process its raw materials into a fuel called stroyent. If you've played any other Quake titles, you'll know some of the history here, but it's mostly irrelevant in the context of Enemy Territory's multiplayer action, so let's cut to the chase: You join either the human Global Defense Force or the alien Strogg team, and then shoot your enemies in the face.

Obviously, it's a tad more complex than this. First, you need to choose one of five classes before each match. The GDF classes will be familiar to any RTCW: Enemy Territory player; the Strogg classes have different names than the human ones, but they all boil down to the same roles. GDF soldiers and Strogg aggressors are your typical frontline troops; medics and technicians heal in the field; and so on. Don't assume that correlating classes are all exactly the same, though. GDF field ops can drop ammo packs, for example. The similar Strogg oppressor doesn't need to drop ammo, since the alien weaponry doesn't require any. Instead, oppressors can set up a tactical shield to protect infantry or vehicles.

Other differences are subtle, but no less important. For example, GDF medics can revive downed teammates almost instantly, while it takes a few crucial seconds for Strogg technicians to do the same. On the other hand, technicians can use their healing stroyent tool on enemies, too, which creates a forward spawn point--a handy skill, indeed. Then you have GDF covert ops versus Strogg infiltrators. Both can disguise themselves as the enemy, but covert ops can use an explosive surveillance camera to spy on the opposition, while infiltrators can send out a handy drone to do battle with enemies from a distance. These differences aren't huge, but they give each faction a different feel and are balanced well.

Shooting stuff in Quake Wars feels terrific. Both GDF and Strogg weaponry have the right weight and firing speed. Even the default weapons for nonassault classes, like the Strogg Lacerator, are effective in battle and handle well. Small details, such as the amount of time the barrels on the Hyperblaster rotate before they begin firing, feel properly balanced. Vehicles and aircraft are easy to manage as well. Oddly enough, though, some ground-movement controls are tied to flight and vehicle controls, so if, for example, you want to change the key binding for your Tormentor's thrust maneuver, you'll be changing the sprint key as well. It would be nice to have vehicle controls separately customizable from within the game, and we're at a loss to explain why players would be forced to edit configuration files to make such a simple, standard change.

[ PC ] City . Life - RELOADED

My personal review:

This is a very similar game and with the same game concept of SimCity and so, I can't really look at this game as being an original one, in fact everytime I play it, I remember SimCity. This is not a good point for any game, you shouldn't consider it a clone, so.....
On the other hand, this game is huge in what relates graphical quality and you will be amazed with the full length and detail of the city you will govern. Keeping in mind what I have just said, I still hope you can enjoy this game and have a great time building and governing your own city!

Gamespot review:

As one of the first city-building simulation games, SimCity's impact on the games industry cannot be underestimated. For one thing, it launched the career of Will Wright, who went on to make the best-selling game of all time with The Sims. But whilst sim games are popular nowadays with developers and gamers alike, it's always been hard to emulate the impact that SimCity had. It's not prevented people from trying, however, and City Life from Monte Cristo is the latest attempt. City Life takes most of the key aspects found in any SimCity title and tosses in some financial planning aspects and a fully 3D graphical engine that lets you get down to the nitty-gritty of your city on the street level. It's not the most inventive city-builder ever made, but it can be a great deal of fun.

The basic aim of the game may be simple--build a successful, sprawling, and happy metropolis--but in practice, it's not so easy. Your task isn't helped initially by the lack of a hands-on tutorial, and instead the game offers a series of rudimentary screenshots with brief explanations. Although they do cover the main areas of the game quite well, there's nothing quite like learning by doing. However, the game does contain plenty of tooltips, as well as a quickstart guide for beginners, whilst experienced sim gamers should find things fairly straightforward.

Alongside all of this juggling is a series of objectives for each map. These range from fairly simple tasks for the bronze award, such as growing the population to a certain point or making a specific amount of profit per month, to the more sophisticated elements of neighbourhood harmonisation and integration in the silver and gold categories. It can be overwhelming to begin with, but there's a monitor in the corner of the screen that gives you some indication of which buildings you should prioritise and where the big problems are. A simple click on that report will display a list of possible solutions, and you can pause the game at any time to take stock of the situation.

One problem you're likely to face sooner rather than later is your cash flow. Your initial purchase of land will determine how much cash remains to fund your building projects, but you can take out a loan to supplement this. Balancing the benefits of having additional resources to build revenue-generating businesses with the cost of repayments and interest is just one of the decisions you'll need to make.

[ PC ] Frontlines: Fuel of War ( BETA , Multiplayer ) 2008

My personal review:

One of the best games to be played online right now! It makes you remind of Counter Strike sometimes as you play trough the whole game. Still, a very fresh game with some revolutionary concepts in its gameplay! Just play it and enjoy all what it has to offer...I bet that you will do! Remember this, this game will only be released on February and it is already here on a BETA Version =D

Gamespot review:

We've had a chance on a couple of occasions in the past to play Frontlines: Fuel of War, and we've been suitably impressed by what we've seen each time. This week, we sat down with an exclusive Xbox 360 build of the game to play through the first four levels of the single-player campaign and to check out the latest multiplayer build from Kaos Studios.

The Frontlines universe and backstory are centered on the struggle and war over fuel in a world depleted of natural resources. While the game is set in 2024, the opening cinematic includes current world political figures such as President George W. Bush. Information on the war, and its causes and consequences, is conveyed through an embedded reporter who tags along explaining updates as new intel comes to light. You take on the role of a Western Coalition soldier charged with fighting the enemy. In this case, the enemy is the Red Star Alliance, a future grouping of Russia and China. The two join forces in the hopes of securing the last available oil deposits in the Caspian, and naturally the United States and the European Union get together on the counteroffensive to make sure that if anyone gets the oil deposits, it will be them (and yes, this does smack of Cold War Part II).

With the scene set and the lines drawn in the sand, the campaign opens with you and your team--the "Stray Dogs"--relieving Alpha Team at an oil refinery in Turkmenistan. Hostiles shoot your chopper down, and you're forced to defend its charred remains and what's left of your squad. Once that's completed, you're given the choice of one of two new missions: locate and destroy a SAM (surface-to-air missile) site on a rooftop, or capture an enemy armory. You will need to finish both to progress through the level, but you are given the choice of the order you'd like to do them in. In some cases you may also find that completing one objective over another gives you an advantage by supplying you with a vehicle or weapon that makes the next part easier. Choice plays a big role in Frontlines, and while the first level is quite linear and your objective options are limited, past here you're often given up to six or seven tasks to complete in expansive environments at your discretion.

Level two--titled Captains of Industry--sees you infiltrate a town before needing to capture and hold multiple points. Here your skills will diversify slightly. You'll need to not only secure ammo supply points, but also hack a computer to gain access to Red Star Alliance tank blueprints. After destroying another SAM site, you'll be airlifted some armoured tank support, which can be used to destroy enemy vehicles blocking your way. Once they're eliminated, you'll move on to secure and disable a tank manufacturing factory, stemming the flow of war machines. You're free to make the trip on foot should you choose to ditch your tank for something a little speedier and portable (such as a shoulder rocket), although obviously you'll be slightly more vulnerable.

As in other modern shooters, you'll get the opportunity to choose a specific "class" before heading out into the field, although Frontlines takes a somewhat different approach since it lets you mix up your weaponry with class-specific abilities (or as they're called in the game, roles). While you can choose classes such as assault, heavy assault, sniper, antivehicle, special ops, and close combat, at the end of the day they're really just different loadout options. From there, you'll have to choose a role, which grants you specific abilities that can be upgraded as you progress through a match. The ground support role, for example, gives you perks such as the ability to repair vehicles or deploy turrets. The air support role lets you call in surgical air strikes initially and eventually levels up to large-scale cluster bombing. The EMP tech role can hide you from radar and will allow you to disable enemy vehicles, while the drone tech role lets you use Frontlines' many mini remote-controlled vehicles to scout, attack, or disable enemies.

[ PC ] Universe at War: Earth Assault [ MULTILANGUAGE ]

My personal review:

Another good RTS game which deserves to be played by every fan of the genre. The game is very well conceited and its only problem is the poor performance of the DirectX 10 features... Anyway, a good game to be played in this last days of holidays! Just play it and enjoy my friends...

Gamespot review:

Universe at War: Earth Assault is this year's Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends. In other words, it's an attempt to deliver an old-school real-time strategy game that features three incredibly unique and distinct factions. And in that regard, Universe at War delivers because it does introduce three alien races, two of which feel like they haven't been seen before in RTS gaming. At the same time, Universe at War also sports some major flaws that hamper it quite a bit.

This is an alien invasion tale where, refreshingly, humanity takes a backseat. When a malevolent alien race known as the Hierarchy invades Earth to turn its inhabitants and belongings into raw material, all hope seems lost. Then, a crusading army of sentient machines called Novus arrives to battle the Hierarchy. Their fighting awakens a long-lost race that was hiding on Earth, the Masari. And, thus, the stage is set for an intergalactic war on Earth's surface.

The differences among the three factions are deep. The Novus build a network node that can encompass the map, which allows them to quickly shift forces around in the blink of an eye. The Hierarchy is like a destructive force of nature because their harvesters scour the map for raw materials while their lumbering walker war machines are like land battleships. Then there's the Masari, which might be the most conventional of the three because they center on the construction of a powerful base and defenses. However, the Masari have the most powerful and expensive units in the game. They can also alternate between two modes: light and dark. The former lets them move faster to inflict more damage, while the latter grounds all their air units to slow their enemies. When you drill down and get used to them, each faction has a lot to offer. For instance, if you're the Hierarchy, it's a lot of fun to just crush your enemies using walkers, but it's also fun watching those same walkers run headlong into your layered defenses if you're the Masari.

Universe at War suffers from some key issues. The most noticeable is the zoom level, which is almost nonexistent. If you can imagine playing a game with your face just inches from the screen, that's what Universe at War feels like at times. It's annoying to see a single Hierarchy walker fill up more than half the screen and realize that you can't pull the camera back any farther. It's such an artificial and painful limitation not being able to actually see the battlefield. The controls are also clumsy. If you try to click on a unit, at times, it won't register. Or if you try to double-click on a unit to select all of its type on the screen, it won't register at times.

Graphically, Universe at War has some pretty units, like the aforementioned walkers. They look almost organic in nature, with their glistening skin and bulbous curves. However, the rest of the game's visuals are a bit dated, from the blocky, polygonal look of many of the characters to the generally bland textures. The game does feature support for DirectX 10, but DX10 performance comes to an absolute crawl, even on a high-end PC that can run Crysis at maximum detail. This occurred even when all the graphical settings were dropped to the absolute lowest. Performance in DirectX 9, on the other hand, is excellent and smooth, even at the highest graphical settings. There's very little noticeable difference in image quality between the two.

Gamespot review:

Half-Life: Counter-Strike is one of the most unusual PC game releases in months. The hugely popular mod for Valve Software's Half-Life has been available for free download for well over a year, and you can still download it for free off the Internet now that it's been through beta testing and has reached version 1.0. And if you don't have the exceptional Half-Life, the new retail edition of Counter-Strike is a chance to get a stand-alone version of this outstanding multiplayer mod. The retail package also includes stand-alone versions of other multiplayer mods and game modes that normally require Half-Life, the best of which are also available free off the Internet: Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Force Multiplayer, Firearms, Redemption, Ricochet, and Wanted. Counter-Strike itself is a superb game that fully deserves top billing in this release.

Counter-Strike divides players into teams of terrorists and counterterrorists in four game modes: rescue/hold hostages, bomb target/defuse bomb, escape from/guard an area, and assassinate/guard a VIP. None of these ideas are particularly original, but they're well implemented, and they strike an effective balance between realistic stealth and frenzied action. The thematically varied maps maximize tactical possibilities with alternate routes, multiple levels, and abundant cover. Games are played in short rounds, and when you're killed, you sit out the round as an invisible observer; there are no deathmatch-style respawns. This creates a strong social aspect, because with "dead" players chatting, there can be an enormous sense of tension for the remaining players stalking each other. Another big impetus to stay alive is that the more successful you and your team are each round, the more money you earn for buying bigger and better weapons. Unfortunately this can lead to a huge imbalance in firepower when one team wins a few consecutive rounds.

One of Counter-Strike's biggest appeals has always been the selection of weapons. In addition to a knife and assorted grenades, there's a wide variety of accurately modeled pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles. Three new weapons have been added to version 1.0: the H&K UMP .45, FN Five-Seven, and the SIG SG-550, though the retail version of the game uses invented names for all weapons.

Each weapon has unique characteristics, so mastering them all and learning which is best for different situations is a lot of fun, and it adds replay value. For instance, high-caliber weapons can penetrate thin walls and doors, which makes lugging a heavy belt-fed machine gun worthwhile when the enemy has been doing more hiding than fighting. Guns also have varied kicks, which makes full automatic fire a "spray and pray" affair - as in real life, short, controlled bursts are best for accurate fire. Effective weapon ranges are well simulated, so shotguns are brutal in close quarters and useless in large open spaces. Location-specific damage modeling means that shots to the head are more likely to get an instant kill.

Another part of the weaponry's appeal is the superlative sound effects. The guns sound remarkably realistic and powerful, which makes them viscerally fun to shoot. Equal care is given to other game sounds, like explosions, injuries from weapons or falling, glass shattering, and so on. Another good feature is the various audio messages you can send to teammates. They cover a whole range of warnings, status reports, and requests for backup. The only problem is that they all use the same voice, regardless of your team.

The Half-Life graphics engine may be dated now, but Counter-Strike has always used it to its fullest potential. The maps are visually appealing, and they have imaginative texturing and dramatic (though sometimes too dark) lighting effects. The updated character models in version 1.0 now use Valve's model-blending technology, along with even better skins than in the past, which makes for great-looking player graphics. Best of all are the firearm models and skins, which are some of the best you'll find in any shooter.

Counter-Strike is an online-only game that has experienced the mixed blessing of its immense popularity. You're guaranteed to find plenty of available game sessions online at any hour. However, cheating and even verbal abuse have long marred the gameplay in Counter-Strike. The game is not in any way newbie-friendly, despite the inclusion of a simple offline tutorial. You'll have to leave your ego at the door when you encounter the countless veteran players you'll face online. Fortunately, the abundance of experienced players means you can quickly learn the tricks of the trade through observation. It should also be noted that while Counter-Strike does require tactical thinking and teamwork, it's still a fast-paced shooter at its core. So not only are lightning-fast reflexes necessary to excel, but so are a fast connection and a low ping.

Still, despite its weaknesses, Counter-Strike is undeniably influential, and has already helped inspire countless similar mods and games. It's easy to see why: Counter-Strike has a simple yet effective design that's brought to life with superior maps and vivid graphics and sound. The end result is utterly exciting and addictive. Counter-Strike is a model of its kind and a thrilling action game.
